The pH of a woman’s vagina is naturally 4 to 4.5. During the menstrual cycle, a woman’s pH level increases in acidity to avoid infection. In order for the sperm to fertilize the egg, it needs a slightly acidic, or neutral pH environment. If the pH level is too acidic, the sperm can become immobile and die.
